Do Now: Share an example of paradox, metaphor, or anaphora from "Civil Disobedience."

SWBAT paraphrase Thoreau’s ideas and identify examples of “civil disobedience”

AGENDA:
1) Discuss Thoreau’s main arguments/your insights from “Civil Disobedience”- How does he view government? What should we do when we disagree with our government? Who has he influenced? Why is this an important essay?
2) In what situations would you justify using “civil disobedience” either inside or outside of school? Have you seen any examples in your own experience?
Identify 2 examples of civil disobedience you’ve seen this past year.
3) "Letter from a Birmingham Jail" Read and locate: a) a rhetorical device and b) a passage that closely relates to "Civil Disobedience"
